Welcome To Whitstable Castle...
Whitstable Castle or Tankerton Towers as it was first called started life as a residence for the Pearson Family in the late 1790’s and over its long history it has been developed and improved by successive owners.
From 2008 to 2010 the Castle and its Gardens were restored and revitalised with the help of over £2 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s ‘Parks for People’ initiative and an extra £1 million from Canterbury City Council and other groups and organisations in Whitstable. Today the Castle is managed by The Whitstable Castle Trust which is made up of a committed group of local people.
The Castle provides a unique and special venue for weddings, private parties, local classes, corporate and community events including a public park complete with ornamental gardens, play area and the Castle Art Studio & Gallery. The Orangery Tea Room is open every day from 10am and there are interpretation boards telling the story of The Castle and its place in Whitstable’s history.
We hope you enjoy your visit and will support the Castle by telling your friends, visiting the Orangery Tea Room, open daily from 10am to 4pm during the winter period, enjoying the Castle’s many facilities by attending one of the many events planned throughout the year or even becoming a “Friend & Member” of the Castle. For more information about hiring the facilities or any other questions relating to the Castle & Gardens please call us on 01227 281726 or email us from the Contact Page.
Group and School visits are welcomed and can be booked via the Castle office on the details above.
